Lost Ladybug Project

From the Argus Leader

South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service scientists, along with those from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, want citizen scientists to contribute with cameras and telephones to a project called The Lost Ladybug Project.

Individuals and families can help by recording lady beetles they see with digital cameras, or by collecting live specimens. The project seeks to find out why certain species, like the nine-spotted lady beetle, have gone from common to extremely rare over the last 20 years.

More information about the project, including images of various rare species found, is available at this link: http://hosts.cce.cornell.edu/ladybeetles. Information about the South Dakota portion of the project is available http://plantsci.sdstate.edu/ent/entpubs/Lost_ladybug_project.htm.
