Quite a Deal

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Remember a few weeks ago when Bob called the Five State Trader to sell his island? I remember because I was the one doing the trader that day - thought Bob was yanking my chain and he reassured me he was not! In fact - Bob said he would send a video of the island over so I would know he was serious and it finally arrived! Check out Crescent Island, Florida below.

Crescent Island is conveniently located in the heart of Pine Island Sound, on the Intracostal Waterway, overlooking Sanibel Island. Private 4 acre island with a two bedroom, 2 and a half bath, fireplace & surround sound. Yours for only $3.4 million.

Dodge Charger

Here is the ‘71 Dodge Charger that turns me on! It’s got a 440 magnum and roars like a beast. I’ve seen it move at more than 145 miles per hour AND I would have to say the guy that owns it is just as easy on the eyes as the car (although I did crop him out of the picutre)!

He did let me ride on it once or twice while I was the Czech Queen to go through parades - could I feel the engine roar from up there!!!

Lost Ladybug Project

From the Argus Leader

South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service scientists, along with those from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, want citizen scientists to contribute with cameras and telephones to a project called The Lost Ladybug Project.

Individuals and families can help by recording lady beetles they see with digital cameras, or by collecting live specimens. The project seeks to find out why certain species, like the nine-spotted lady beetle, have gone from common to extremely rare over the last 20 years.

More information about the project, including images of various rare species found, is available at this link: http://hosts.cce.cornell.edu/ladybeetles. Information about the South Dakota portion of the project is available http://plantsci.sdstate.edu/ent/entpubs/Lost_ladybug_project.htm.

Do your kids know the value of a dollar?

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Our Drivetime challenge today:

Matt’s suggestion: When you get home with your child, ask them if they know how much their coat cost. See if they really understand what the coat is worth. Then ask if they know how long you had to work in order to buy that coat for them.

I want to know how this little experiment went! Did your children understand? Did you think they would know but ended up being way off? How do you teach your children the value of a dollar? I would like to know as how my parents taugh me worked pretty well, but I know when I get kids I will need all the advice I can get! Leave me a comment below.

Do I really look like Sarah Palin?!?!?

A Dinner Plate and a Hockey Puck

Lopsided Burger

Here is what the text says:

So we got to talking about fast food places during Drivetime on Monday….and McDonald’s is apparently the worst place in the entire world for many listeners. I haven’t really ever had issues with them. Sure I get a messed up order now and then, but over all they fix them right away and all is well. Once listener called up to say they (the burger assemblers) should be given a dinner plate and a hockey puck to practice with when trying to get the burger acutally on the bun. I thought this was just hillarious becuase I do usually have issues with burgers sliding off the bun as well. So the story continues when I have the biggest hankerin’ for a big mac (becuase we just kept talking about McyD’s) and go grab one over my lunch break on Tuesday. It was a busy day, so I brought the burger back to eat at my desk! And sure enough… when I open up the box my burner is half on the bun AND the part you don’t see is the cheese is half off the bun on the other side! So there was absolutly no hope in getting this burger stacked up right. What could I do except carefully shovel in the lopsided burger!
